Florida Gulf Coast – Lido Key

Lido Key

This will be a short post, but I wanted to share a couple of photos from Lido Key, which is a little island, probably about a mile long,  right by Sarasota, Florida, right on the Gulf Coast.   The beaches along the strip are wide, beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing!

The birds are plentiful – pelicans, herons, sandpipers, and of course, lots of seagulls –  searching in the sand or swooping into the water for fish.  The water is calm, with just enough of a surf to make it fun.

Condos and small family-friendly hotels line the island, but there are also several public parks/beaches.  Just minutes away is St Armand’s Circle, a well known shopping area with quaint boutiques and a multitude of dining choices.  It’s a great people watching location, day or night, and often during the weekend, you’ll happen upon an art festival or a car show or the like.

Lots to do in Sarasota, if you want to tear yourself away from the beach or take a break from the sun.  While in the area, you can also explore Siesta Key, Venice Beach, and Anna Maria Island, all a short drive away, and equally beautiful beach destinations in their own right.

If you’ve been to the Sarasota/Lido Key area, what did you find that you liked the most?  Where would you recommend as the best place to visit?  Would love to hear your suggestions.
