Eastern Caribbean on Royal Caribbean

Explorer of the Seas

Explorer of the Seas

Any time we get a chance to sail along the blue and green waters of the Caribbean, we will take it!    This was the first time we’ve sailed out of Port Bayonne New Jersey, and we were lucky to have calm seas and beautiful weather all the way down to the Caribbean and back up again.

Bermuda doesn’t show up on the sailings out of Florida, so we were happy to explore a new spot – and we weren’t disappointed!    The underwater world was bright and beautiful – visibility amazing and colorful coral everywhere.  And the land tour took us all around the island in about 4 hours, with the required photo op stops at many choice spots.

The other ports we visited, which were repeats for us, were St Thomas, where for the first time, we had a chance to visit Megan’s Bay and splash in it’s gorgeous waters, St Maarten, which has been built up quite a bit around the port area so that you now take a water taxi from the dock to the main part of town, and Puerto Rico, which on the day we were in port was showcasing local artists throughout the streets in a once a year festival.

The Explorer of the Seas, about 10 years old,  housed over 3000 guests for this 9 day cruise, but you wouldn’t guess there were that many passengers on board by walking around.  There are so many places to be that it only felt crowded during special activities on the Promenade or waiting to disembark at the ports.  From the activities that keep you moving – rock-climbing wall, mini golf course, and ice skating rink – to the less strenuous – movie theater, evening shows, lounges, game room, library – there’s a choice for everyone.  And of course, the food was great – and not having to cook and cleanup didn’t hurt!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Explorer and in the Caribbean – but then, who wouldn’t!!      Take a look at some of our photos to get an idea….. but you really should go yourself to get the full picture!!!!
